UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES

With COVID-19 having infiltrated Chile, one of the complaints I am hearing is the lack of available workers to fill jobs. We won't discuss competency here.

The unintended consequences are a result of the government allowing pople to take out money from their  retirement accounts. This has happened several times recently. Of course, the Chilean mentality being what it is, people chose to stay at home with their newly acquired pesos rather than work at some low paid job (most of them).

So, although the thought was good, there is a void of workers due to this socialist move on the part of the government which I am sure they did not consider.

If the Chilean government really wanted to jumpstart the economy, they would create tax incentives for entrepeneurs to start new manufacturing facilities, creating a multitude of jobs and breaking the stranglehold that China has on all the goods being brought into the country. Unfortunately, finding competent staff that are willing to work and think of someone other than themselves is the challenge. (subject for the next post). Also, who in their right mind would want to put up millions of pesos on a business that had governmental and cultural hurdles to overcome.

I can envision Chile bringing in more Haitians after the latest earthquake there, thus exacerbating the problem further. Thank you Michele Batchelet.
